Take a peaceful walk through the streets and visit the old former Arab Quarter, the Mudéjar Temple of the 16th century, the archaeological site in the hill "La Mora" "The Dam", and the hill named "Colorao".
Visit the town's heritage "La Tahona" (The Bakery). It has been totally renovated and is now the local museum in Calle Posito, close to the church. No longer the public granary, it still explains how a flour mill functioned and is full of local heritage and examples of the culture.
There are many opportunities to enjoy a pleasant time and come to know the cosy character of its people, its food, the fame of its excellent sausage, the quality of its olive oils, its history, and the various Fiesta days.
On mountain bike there are more than 20 routes to and from Villanueva Mesia. "Hiponova Route" consisting of 46 kilometres (over 28 miles) is totally signposted. It can also be walked, but it is so better taken in 2 or 3 stages. It is the most stunning of all the routes around the village. This route is full of historic and monumental references.
From Valle de los Pinares to the village of Montefrio, the old Roman site of Hiponova in the Sierras Subbeticas to Peña de los Gitanos down to El Valle de los Molinos marked out by a series of ancient water mills. At the end of the valley you arrive at Tocon with its olive mill in production, then return via the surroundings of the River Genil to Villanueva Mesia for a shower, a drink, and a rest!
